The dual town/country existence has been growing over the past few years, the pandemic however has made it even more appealing.
Jake Civardi, Partner at The Buying Solution says:
“We have noticed a marked increase of second home buyers coming into the market recently. They are looking turn key houses; the current mentality being ‘buy it now and complete as soon as possible’ so that they can enjoy summer in them. The market has seen a real resurgence, and country houses seem the instant solution to lockdown woes. Buyers are also now looking slightly further afield with the prospect of changing work patterns, with more working from home. We have seen increasing demand for Wiltshire and Dorset. Interestingly too, schools are influencing second home purchases, many buyers have mentioned that they may well migrate permanently to the country in the future so knowing there are good schools close by has become even more of a selling point.
“There is a notable shortage of country stock particularly at mid market levels, a few properties which have become privately available have had a load of interest translating into sale prices that are prob 10-15pc above where we would have expected them to be pre lockdown.
“For families there has been a huge trend towards searching for a second home with a swimming pool or space to install an above ground pool. Now that summers are getting hotter and there will be less opportunity for travel, having a pool at home can keep the children/grandchildren entertained for hours.”
