Now that people are becoming more wary of visiting GP’s and hospitals for minor appointments and with many private hospitals being given over to the NHS, there is a trend emerging for the ultra rich to include medical facilities within their own homes.
Mark Lawson, Partner at The Buying Solution, says; “One of our more elderly and cautious clients has recently employed two full time, fully qualified private nurses to care for her at home – this is so that if one falls ill there will be trusted back up. Her revised property search now includes bedrooms and private quarters for each nurse.”
For wealthy people already travelling with huge entourages, adding a private doctor to the mix is a very natural jump, adds Mark. “You see it in particular with families from the Middle East: everywhere they go they’ll bring their chef, personal assistant, security team, and so on. I imagine more often now that will include healthcare staff too.”
Interior designers like Millier too are seeing an increase in demand for ‘convalescent suites’ where family members can isolate in the upmost luxury. These clients go to the best doctors on Harley Street and the best medi spas so their at home facilities have to match. In addition, a new development in Mayfair 82 Mount Street is styling itself as the first Covid compliant development with a no touch lift and air filtration system.
