Jonathan Bramwell talks to Carole Walker at The Times Radio
Q Have you noticed more people looking to move out of London and major cities?
A As soon as lockdown happened we received many more calls. A lot of buyers were already looking to make the move as London in particular was getting too expensive. We’ve been very busy since April. For our buyers it’s all about fresh air, access to green space and living a much healthier lifestyle – good broadband for working from home is crucial.
Q Are people now able to make their moves?
A The market is busier than normal – the estate agents are back up and running with appropriate PPE . Reassuringly people are using their common sense when it comes to viewing. At The Buying Solution we’ve been flat out with viewings! All of our clients wanted to get out and about to view as soon as it was physically possible. The market has been ‘frenzied’. There is so much demand for country property.
Q Are younger buyers moving?
A We’ve been seeing Londoners in their 20’s and 30’s looking to move for a while due to high property values in the capital – lockdown has heighted it. Fast broadband is a must have. I live in the Cotswolds and we’re delighted to have Gigaclear in many of the towns and villages which is a huge attraction for many.
Q Are some of your potential buyers a little naïve about country life?
A There might be an element of this – people may miss the vibrancy of city life. However, most will thrive. Interestingly more businesses are considering a move out of bigger cities to save on commercial rent – the local market towns will be real winners as this will likely encourage local reinvigoration and community engagement.
